Heart block

A heart block is when the electrical pulses that control the beating of the heart are disrupted. Usually, only serious types of heart block cause symptoms.
Symptoms of heart block
The symptoms of heart block depend on which type you have and how severe it is. Common symptoms include light-headedness, dizziness and fainting.
Causes of heart block
Heart block can be caused by several conditions and by using certain medications. People can be born with the condition (congenital), or develop it over time (acquired).
Diagnosing heart block
There are several tests that may be used to diagnose heart block, depending on your symptoms. It is often diagnosed during tests for other conditions.
Treating heart block
Treatment is usually only required when a heart block is causing symptoms (symptomatic). Treatment may include transcutaneous pacing (TCP) or a pacemaker.
