A community improvement project that has captured the imagination of residents in a west Hull street will be helped off the ground this week by the Hull 2020 programme.
From Monday 1 September more than a dozen neighbours will begin to plant hedgerows of lavender in their front gardens along Hull’s Coltman Street.
Simon Kelsey of the Coltman Street Residents' Association shared the simple idea of planting lavender to transform the street and bring neighbours together at the launch of the Hull 2020 programme in August.
NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has provided funding towards the purchase of lavender bushes, as part of the Hull 2020 pledge to support and empower communities to come forward with their own ideas to help build a better future for people living in the city.
Emma Latimer, Hull 2020 programme Sponsor, said:
“Simon’s idea that -You don't need to move to a better area. Working together we can make our area better - positively affirms the Hull 2020 vision of making a better future together.”
“The lavender project is the first of a number of innovative community-led projects to support the development of Local Champions for Hull 2020,and celebrate the work they are doing to improve the health and wellbeing in their own communities.”
